Privacy Policy
The Dill Diary app and the website dilldiary.com (together, “The Dill Diary”) are made by Funbox Games LLC, a Delaware limited liability company (“we,” “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run things, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We collect what the app needs to work: your pickle ratings and photos, game progress, and your email if you give it to us.
- No ads, no ad trackers, no analytics tools, and we don’t sell or share your personal information.
- If you use “Use my location,” your location stays on your phone.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time (Passport → Delete my account).
1. What we collect
When you use the app
- Account: the app creates an account with a random ID when you first open it. No name or password.
- Email (optional): if you save your passport, we keep your email so you can sign in with a one-time code.
- Your pickles: for each pickle you rate, the product name, brand and barcode, your scores, your note, its rarity and when you rated it, plus any jar photo you take.
- Shared barcode catalog: if you scan a barcode we don’t know and add its name and brand, that product name and brand are shared with other users who scan the same barcode. We record which account added it; if you delete your account, that link is removed.
- Game progress and settings: streaks, game stats and badges, Brine Time jars, museum visits, recipes you’ve made, and similar app progress, so your passport can be restored on a new phone.
- Location (optional): if you tap “Use my location,” the app reads your approximate location while it’s open to show nearby pickle events. It stays on your phone and isn’t sent to us or stored by us.
- ZIP code (optional): if you enter a ZIP code instead, it’s saved on your phone. To find its area, the app sends just the ZIP code to the free lookup service Zippopotam.us.
- Reminders (optional): reminders are scheduled on your phone. We don’t collect a push token.
- Bot checks: when you create an account or ask for a sign-in code, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you’re a person. Cloudflare processes information about your device and browser to do this.
When you use dilldiary.com
- Waitlist: your email, the Pickle Personality you got in the quiz (if you took it), where you came from (for example a “?ref=tiktok” link), when you signed up, and whether you’ve unsubscribed.
- Quiz: your quiz answers are worked out in your browser and aren’t sent to us. Only the result is saved, and only if you join the waitlist.
- Bot checks: the waitlist form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, as above.
- Standard web logs: our hosting provider, Cloudflare, handles basic technical information such as IP addresses and browser type to deliver and protect the site. Fonts load from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address.
2. How we use it
- To run the app: your passport, personality card, games, backups and restoring your passport on a new phone.
- To send email you asked for: sign-in codes, the waitlist welcome email and launch news.
- To keep The Dill Diary safe: stopping bots, spam and abuse.
- To improve The Dill Diary, using the information above. We don’t build advertising profiles.
- To follow the law and respond to valid legal requests.
3. Who helps us
We use these service providers. They handle data for us under their own privacy and security terms, and only to provide their service.
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, sign-in, database and photo storage |
| Cloudflare | Hosts dilldiary.com and the app’s daily puzzle pictures, runs bot checks (Turnstile), forwards email to us |
| Resend | Sends sign-in codes and waitlist emails |
| Open Food Facts | Looks up product names and images for barcodes you scan (we send the barcode) |
| Zippopotam.us | Looks up a ZIP code’s area, if you enter one (we send only the ZIP) |
| Google Fonts | Serves the fonts on dilldiary.com |
We don’t sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising. We may share information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety or our rights, or as part of a merger or sale of The Dill Diary (in which case this policy still applies to your data).
4. How long we keep it
- App data: until you delete your account (or ask us to). Deleted data may stay in our providers’ backups for a short time before it’s gone.
- Waitlist: until the app launches and for as long as you stay subscribed, or until you ask us to delete it. If you unsubscribe, we keep a record so we don’t email you again.
5. Your choices
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Passport → Delete my account. It deletes your pickles, photos, game progress and account right away. Or email [email protected].
- Unsubscribe: use the link at the bottom of any waitlist email, or reply to it.
- Location and reminders: both are off unless you turn them on, and you can turn them off in the app or your phone’s settings.
- Access or correct your data: email us and we’ll help. Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut or other US states), you may have rights to know, access, correct, delete or get a copy of your personal information. We honor these requests for everyone, and we won’t treat you differently for making one.
6. Kids
The Dill Diary is for people 13 and older. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we’ll delete it.
7. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Your ratings, notes, photos and progress are locked to your account, so other users can’t read them. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you as the law requires.
8. Where data is kept
We’re based in the United States. Our providers may store and process data in the United States and other countries where they operate.
9. Changes
We’ll update this policy as The Dill Diary changes, and change the date at the top. For important changes, we’ll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
